How do different people experience the same location? This was leading question for Philipp Mentrup to start a project about cognition. During a semester projekt at the FH Würzburg a compilation of five magazines, each with the expressions of one location had been orginated.
Five locations in Vienna were experienced with some help of other people. During an excursion to the austrian capital different indentations from five people at each location were ask to answer some questions and take pictures of the place by single-use cameras, with which they were supposed to show their special view on Vienna.
According to choice of typeface Philipp says the following :
Really early I decided to use the »Edelsans« by Jakob Runge for my project. I simply liked the font’s clean geometric character. Because the magazine’s focus is first of all about impressions of the interviewed persons, I wanted to have a typeface with pleasant resistance and playful characteristics as well. The »Edelsans« did fulfil these requirements.
Additional to »Edelsans« I used the »JJ Realis« by Juliane Köbler and Jakob Runge for continuous text and other text in small font sizes. It’s a clean typeface as well, but it’s character did not have been in competition to the »Edelsans«. Mixing two sans-serif typefaces always is a challenge, but did worked really well in this case. Here, too, I was affected by the decent details of the »JJ Realis« in comparison to other fonts.
